Coronavirus Vaccine is among one of the fastest developed vaccines in the world. The normal time to develop a vaccine is approximately 10 years. This includes everything from research and development to production. But in the case of COVID19 doctors and scientists surprised the world. In less than a year Russia announced the first vaccine for coronavirus. Later some more countries including India and USA developed some vaccines. Here is a list of vaccines for coronavirus that are available to the public. We have listed some of them with proven track records.
Sputnik V Vaccine for Corona virus (Russia)
Sputnik V COVID vaccine is a Russian vaccine for COVID 19. As per some of the latest reports, the effectiveness of Sputnik is up to 95 percent. Which is great because this will reduce the coronavirus cases in the world and total number of deaths due to COVID by a great margin.
According to an interim analysis from a trial published in The Lancet medical journal, the Sputnik V vaccine has 91.6 percent efficacy.
COVAXIN vaccine for coronavirus (India)
COVAXIN, India’s indigenous COVID-19 vaccine by Bharat Biotech is developed in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) – National Institute of Virology (NIV).
The vaccine is developed using Whole-Virion Inactivated Vero Cell derived platform technology. Inactivated vaccines do not replicate and are therefore unlikely to revert and cause pathological effects. They contain dead viruses, incapable of infecting people but still able to instruct the immune system to mount a defensive reaction against an infection. Additionally, this is among the initial vaccines for coronavirus in India.
COVAXIN demonstrated 77.8% vaccine efficacy against symptomatic COVID-19 disease, through evaluation of 130 confirmed cases, with 24 observed in the vaccine group versus 106 in the placebo group. The efficacy against severe symptomatic COVID-19 disease is 93.4% as per test data. The efficacy data demonstrates 63.6% protection against asymptomatic COVID-19.
Covishield Vaccine for Corona virus(Oxford / AstraZeneca, USA)
Covishield vaccine is one more effective vaccine. The production is happening at Serum Institute, Pune (India). Overall effectiveness of Covishield vaccine is 70.42 percent as per ICMR. After the second dose the effectiveness of corona virus vaccine Covishield reaches more than 95 percent. Therefore, most people prefer this one over other options in India. Additionally, there is a lot of data available in the public domain to prove results.
